At least four people were killed and six others critically wounded in a crude bomb explosion in India's eastern state of West Bengal, officials said Monday.
The bomb accidentally went off Sunday night at a house in Maldah district, about 360 km north of Kolkata city, the capital of West Bengal.
"Four persons were killed and six others were critically wounded in an explosion last night at Jainpur village of Baisnavnagar area here," a local official said.
The victims according to reports were making crude bombs at a house when one of them went off suddenly.
Following the blast, locals and police rushed to the spot and removed six wounded persons to the hospital.
"The six survivors have been admitted to the Malda Medical College and Hospital in very critical condition," the official said.
A large quantity of bomb-making material has been recovered from the spot by police, officials said.
Authorities have rushed large contingents of police and paramilitary to the village.
West Bengal has been holding a local legislative election since April 4 and the last phase of the polls will be held on May 5. Endit
