Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico was released from hospital on Sunday after heart surgery last month.

Fico was released from the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NUSCH) in order to continue his recovery from heart surgery at home, confirmed institute spokesperson Dobroslava Krajacicova.

Fico also announced his release from hospital on his official Facebook profile.

"Recuperation now awaits me," stated Fico.

"The prime minister continues to carry out his official duties and is communicating with his closest professional environment," Fico's spokesperson Beatrice Szaboova told TASR.

Fico was admitted into NUSCH on April 14, eventually undergoing an unspecified heart operation on April 22. Endit
