Xinhua, May 1, 2016 Adjust font size:

Saudi Arabia announced on Sunday it arrested a Saudi man suspected of being involved in a number of terrorist acts, including the deadly mosque attack that killed 18 worshipers in August last year.

Saudi Press Agency quoted the Interior Ministry spokesperson as saying in a statement that Aqab Al Otaibi, the suspect, was arrested following investigation of a foiled terrorist attack on Friday.

According to the report, the attack was trying to target an area in the country's southwestern Asir region, in which the police killed two suspected terrorists and confiscated their cars, one of which was loaded with bombs.

The spokesperson said that the suspect was arrested before setting off the explosive belt he was wearing.

Saudi Arabia has reported many deadly attacks orchestrated by the Islamic State militant group through its sleeping cells in the country. Enditem
