Russia urges all Syrian forces to observe truce amid growing violence in Aleppo

Xinhua, April 30, 2016 Adjust font size:

Russian Foreign Ministry on Friday urged all Syrian forces and interested parties to stick to the ceasefire regime, as violence accelerated especially in Syria's Aleppo.

"We once again urge all members of the ISSG (International Syria Support Group) to do their utmost to ensure observance of the ceasefire regime, the full disassociation of the Syrian ceasefire participants from terrorists, including geographically," the ministry said.

In an online statement, the ministry condemned the recent violent truce-breaching acts in Syria, saying building of Russian Consulate General in Aleppo, northern Syria, came under mortar fire Thursday.

The "intentional" bombing caused no casualty, said the ministry, which alleged the act was done by terrorist group Jabhat al-Nusra and its allied forces.

The ministry said such incident proved terrorists and their supporters tried to undermine the current ceasefire regime in Syria, which was brokered by Russia and the United States and came into force since the midnight of Feb. 26.

"We believe it is extremely important to give proper rebuke to these attempts, to enhance coordinated action of Russia and the U.S. as co-chairmen of the ISSG, which is directly monitoring the ceasefire," the ministry added.

Despite the repetitive breaches now and then, Syria is currently holding certain degree of truce in the national capital of Damascus in comparison with other cities, while sources in Aleppo said the truce there has completely collapsed. Endit
