President Xi Jinping called on intellectuals, workers and the younger generation to work for the nation's revival.
Xi met more than 70 renowned scientists and researchers, model workers and young students in Hefei on Tuesday during his inspection tour in east China's Anhui Province, according to a press release published on Friday.
The revival of the Chinese nation, a great but very difficult cause, requires all Chinese to pool their efforts and resources, the president said.
He said he expects intellectuals to realize their full potential and take the lead in the country's innovation drive, workers to be more engaged in their posts, and the younger generation to aim high while keeping their feet on the ground.
Xi extended greetings to intellectuals, workers and young people ahead of the International Workers' Day on May 1 and the Youth Day on May 4.
RESPECT INTELLECTUALS
Communist Party and government departments should fully trust intellectuals and create a favorable environment for them to exercise their talent and develop their careers, the president said.
Officials are urged not to "interfere in the creative work of intellectuals so that they can concentrate on what they do." They should improve communication with intellectuals and help resolve difficulties at work and in their personal life.
Officials should welcome advice and criticism from intellectuals and become "true friends" of them, Xi stressed.
"When opinions are meant well, we should warmly welcome them. We should take in constructive opinions and be more tolerant and inclusive, even though some of them are biased or incorrect," he said, adding that intellectuals should not be blamed or punished for expressing their opinions.
The president also expects intellectuals to put the country and people first, uphold "the right path" and pursue the truth.
To better understand the situation of China and the rest of the world, they should not belittle themselves nor repeat others' words without thinking, he said.
Xi encouraged them to take the lead in the country's innovation drive and contribute to the country's economic and social development as well as improvement of the people's welfare.
They should sharpen creativity, expand the horizon and devote themselves to hard work, Xi said.
HONEST WORK
All of society should vigorously promote the spirit of hard work, while opposing negative thoughts such as profiting from other people's work, opportunism and indulging in pleasure and comfort, Xi said.
The president encouraged the working people, no matter their current occupations, to study diligently, work industriously and constantly perfect their skills to create brilliant achievements.
Model workers are the outstanding representatives of the working people and their exemplary deeds should be publicized for all of society, Xi said. He also advocated comprehensive support for them in realizing their full potential.
Local authorities should sincerely care about the working people and conscientiously implement Party and state policies to promote employment and entrepreneurship, he said.
Xi also urged authorities to earnestly protect workers' lawful rights and interests and help them resolve problems to establish harmonious labor relations.
HOPE OF THE NATION
Realizing the Chinese dream of national rejuvenation requires young people to aspire, generation after generation, to make continuous endeavors, Xi said, calling them "the tomorrow of the country and hope of the nation."
Young people should dedicate their lives to building socialism with Chinese characteristics, Xi said, asking them to uphold socialist core values and work hard, without fear of difficulties, to fulfill their dreams.
He also urged them to spend their "precious youth" working hard and to continue learning, both from books and in practice.
Young people should dare to become pioneers and make the best of youth through innovation and entrepreneurship, Xi stressed.
He urged Party committees and governments at all levels to have faith in youth, care for them, guide them and provide services for their growth, innovation and career development. Endi
