Tangshan Int'l Horticultural Exposition kicks off

The Tangshan International Horticultural Exposition 2016 kicked off on Friday in Tangshan city in north China's Hebei Province.

Spreading out over more than 20 sq km, the expo venue features a manmade lake on on the site of a decommissioned mine in the city famed for previously booming iron industry.

The theme of the expo is "City and Nature, Phoenix Nirvana," chosen to draw parallels with the rebirth of Tangshan after an devastating earthquake 40 years ago, according to the organizers.

The expo is scheduled to run from April 29 to Oct. 16. The organizers are expecting 10 million visits. Endi
