3 IS militants killed in eastern Afghan airstrikes

Xinhua, April 29, 2016 Adjust font size:

The U.S.-led coalition airstrikes have killed three militants of the Islamic State (IS) in Afghanistan's eastern province of Nangarhar, a military statement said on Friday.

"The coalition forces conducted airstrikes against armed members of IS terrorist group in Dih Bala District of Nangarhar province (on Thursday), killing three armed members of IS outfit," Afghan Special Forces Operational Coordination Command said in the statement.

The statement added that conducting precise airstrikes against terror groups would ultimately weaken the activities of the terrorist networks and would prevent the militants from setting up training centers in remote districts.

The Afghan security forces have beefed up security operations against militants recently as spring and summer known as fighting season is drawing near in the country.

The mountainous Dih Bala and neighboring Achin districts have been regarded as the stronghold of IS militants.

The militants group has yet to make comments. Endit
