The Palestinian government on Thursday denounced the killing of two Palestinian siblings at an Israeli military checkpoint in the south of Ramallah city.
The shooting of Maram Taha, 23, and her brother, 14, is a "new crime to be added to the crimes record of the occupation against children, women and unarmed civilians," Yousef Al-Mahmoud, a government spokesperson, said in an emailed statement.
"Nothing justifies the killing of a pregnant woman and her brother," Al-Mahmoud said, denouncing what he described as the "international community's silence toward the crimes of the occupiers."
The West Bank Palestinian Health Ministry said on Wednesday that a woman and a young man were shot dead by Israeli troops outside the Qalandiya army checkpoint.
Eyewitnesses said that Israeli soldiers at the checkpoint fired around 15 shots toward the two Palestinians, killing them on the spot.
Israeli media reported that both the woman and the man were suspected of attempting to carry out a stabbing attack against Israeli soldiers stationed at the checkpoint.
A wave of violence has been ongoing between Israelis and Palestinians, which has so far killed over 200 Palestinians and about 30 Israelis. Endit
