Parliamentary elections in Belarus scheduled for September

Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko supported the proposal to hold the election to the House of Representatives of the National Assembly on 11 September, Lidia Yermoshina, chief of Central Election Commission said on Wednesday.

The CEC head told media after a meeting with the head of state, that the president approved the proposal for the CEC to make the electoral process more transparent, in accordance with OSCE recommendations on the results of the presidential elections in 2015.

Among the novelties of the upcoming parliamentary elections - improving the transparency of the process of formation of electoral commissions, consideration of electoral disputes, as well as improving the transparency in the counting of votes, Yermoshina said.

The head of state stressed that special attention should be paid to the formation of election commissions, which must include worthy representatives of labor collectives, political parties and public associations.

The House of Representatives of the National Assembly is the lower house of the Belarusian parliament. The House of Representatives consists of 110 deputies (representatives). The election of deputies is carried out on the basis of universal, free, equal and direct suffrage by a secret ballot. Enditem
