3 conscripts killed, 8 injured in Egypt's Sinai blast

Xinhua, April 27, 2016 Adjust font size:

Three conscripts died and eight others injured Wednesday during a blast which targeted a security patrol in Arish city in Egypt's North Sinai province, state-run MENA reported.

MENA cited a security source as saying that the blast scene is currently being examined by bomb experts searching for other explosives and a manhunt operation is underway in order to arrest the culprits.

The eight injured conscripts were transferred to Arish's Military Hospital, according to the report.

Terrorist attacks have killed hundreds of policemen and soldiers since the army removed former Islamist president Mohamed Morsi from power in July 2013, in response to mass protests against his one-year-rule.

The Sinai-based Ansar Bayt al-Maqdis (ABM) militant group, which now calls itself, "Sinai State," and pledges loyalty to the Islamic State (IS) militant group, claimed responsibility for most of the terrorist attacks in Egypt.

Security forces launched a substantial anti-terrorist operation in North Sinai killing hundreds of militants and arresting a similar number of suspects. Endit
