The President of the Republic of Sierra Leone Ernest Koroma formally launched the Waterloo/Masiaka road project estimated at 154 million dollars on Monday.
The road is being constructed by the Chinese Railway Seventh Group (CRSG) and it will involve the widening of the 70 kilometer road to four lanes.
Launching the project at Waterloo about 40 kilometers east of the capital Freetown, President Koroma described the occasion as "another milestone in China-Sierra Leone relationship."
He recalled on assuming office he had committed to improving the country's development by undertaking infrastructural development through constructing new roads and improving the country's electricity and water supply.
Chinese Ambassador Zhao Yanbo noted that the road project coincides with the country's 55th independence anniversary and the 45th anniversary of the establishment of Chinese diplomatic relationship with the country.
He assured that the Chinese company will provide a "first class road network as it is known for its "efficiency, quality and credibility" in its road construction projects in the country.
The head of the CRSG in Sierra Leone, Du Jianguo, was happy to undertake the project noting that since starting business in the country "we have enjoyed our working relationship with the Sierra Leoneans".
He promised to provide the country with a first class road and pledged to finish the work in record time.
