Cocaine smuggling attempt thwarted at Lebanon's airport

Lebanese customs agents at Beirut Rafik Hariri International Airport uncovered Monday an attempt to smuggle an amount of cocaine worth about half a million U.S. dollars into the country.

The Finance Ministry said in a statement the a traveler arriving from Brazil via Ethiopian Airlines was arrested after the discovery of 4.5 kilograms of cocaine concealed in his luggage.

"He has been referred to the concerned judiciary," the statement added.

The Lebanese authorities have managed to thwart several drug smuggling attempts.

Last October, a Saudi prince was seized for smuggling over two tons of Captagon pills at the airport. Endit
