Senior Al-Shabaab leader arrested in Mogadishu

Xinhua, April 25, 2016 Adjust font size:

Somalia security forces have arrested a senior Al-Shabaab militant who is wanted for a series of bomb attacks in the Horn of Africa nation.

Spokesman Abdifitah Omar Halane said on Monday the National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) nabbed Hassan Fanah during a security operation in Kahda district, south of Mogadishu on Sunday night.

Halane told reporters in Mogadishu that Fanah who the government has offered 12,000 U.S. dollar reward for information of his capture in 2015, is being questioned over a number of attacks that have occurred in the country.

The militant leader is believed to have led deadly terrorist attacks that the group took against AU and Somali National Army bases earlier.

The Al-Shabaab group has been removed from the capital Mogadishu in 2011, but still carries out deadly attacks against government, AU bases and social gatherings so far. Enditem
