6 killed in Taliban attack on army camp in western Afghanistan

Five militants and an army soldier were killed after the Taliban attacked an Afghan army camp in the western province of Farah Saturday night, the Defense Ministry said on Sunday.
"The Taliban raided the an army camp in Anar Dara District, Farah province overnight. The army personnel fought back and killed five militants and injured four others. One army soldier also martyred during the clashes," the ministry said in a statement.
The army's helicopters also struck the militants' positions during the clashes in the district bordering Iran, it said.
Furthermore, up to five Taliban militants were killed, three wounded and three others were detained during separate cleanup operations over the past 24 hours, the ministry said earlier in the day.
A Taliban judge named Mawlawi Abdul Rahman was among the killed, according to the statement.
The statement also confirmed loss of two army soldiers during the raids.
The Taliban has yet to make comments.
The Afghan security forces have beefed up security operations against militants recently as spring and summer known as fighting season is drawing near in the country. Enditem
