China on Friday urged Japan's political figures to uphold correct conception of history after a group of Japanese lawmakers visited the Yasukuni Shrine.
"As to the Yasukuni Shrine issue, we have made our position clear to the Japanese side," said Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying at a routine press briefing.
The shrine honors some 2.5 million war dead, including more than 1,000 convicted war criminals, including 14 Class-A war criminals.
The visit by the group of lawmakers to celebrate the shrine's spring festival on Friday, follows Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe making a ritual offerings to the shrine in Tokyo and dedicating a "masakaki" tree a day earlier.
"We hope that Japanese politicians will do more things to promoting reconciliation and trust between Japan and its neighbors," said Hua. Endi
