Acting Philippine military chief named

Philippine President Benigno S. Aquino III named on Friday an acting military chief after General Hernando Iriberri retired from his post.

Lieutenant General Glorioso Miranda, 54, was appointed as the acting chief of staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).

With a little over two months left from his six-year term, Aquino is barred already from appointing a permanent head of the AFP.

The president described Miranda as a "strategist." He will be the acting military chief until Aquino steps down from his post in June.

Miranda, a member of the Philippine Military Academy Class of 1983, is a scout ranger, a paratrooper, an infantry and intelligence officer with commando training in the United Kingdom and Singapore. He has two Master Degrees, namely Master National Security Administration and Master in Business Administration. Endit
