Malaysia refutes U.S. human rights allegations

Xinhua, April 22, 2016 Adjust font size:

The Malaysian government on Friday refutes the allegations by the United States on its human rights records, saying the report was one-sided and unbalanced.

In a statement, the foreign ministry said the U.S. 2015 country report on human rights practices concerning Malaysia was "based on unsubstantiated information and relies primarily on sources whose objectivity is questionable."

The allegations "selectively reflected to impute disrepute on the Government of Malaysia, and did not take into consideration its efforts to promote and protect human rights," it said.

Malaysia considered the report as a one-sided approach by the U.S. that "ignores Malaysia's sovereign right to decide on its internal affairs." Enditem
