The following are news highlights in Ethiopia's major media outlets on Friday.
-- Prime Minister Hailemariam Dessalegn has arrived in New York on Wednesday to attend the high level thematic debate on achieving SDGs and the Paris Climate Agreement signing ceremony due to take place Friday and Saturday, respectively.
His arrival is a demonstration of Ethiopia's strong commitment to the implementation of the SDGs and the Paris Climate Agreement. The Prime Minister is scheduled to speak at both high level events. (Fana Broadcasting Corporate/FBC)
-- Promotion works in Ethiopia's mineral development have been carried out to attract international giant companies, the Ethiopian Ministry of Mines, Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoMPNG) said.
Minister of Mines, Petroleum and Natural Gas Tolesa Shagi told ENA that over 3,000 geosciences data have been distributed in half a year.
Officials of the Ministry have carried out promotion works in countries like Australia, China, and other nations in person, the minister said, adding that following these many companies have expressed interest. (Ethiopian News Agency/ENA)
-- Ethiopia and Djibouti are selecting a company which will manage the operation of the Ethio-Djibouti railway project, the Ethiopian Railways Corporation (ERC) said.
After the selection of a company, the railway line is expected to begin trial operation soon with an electric power system, said Dereje Tefera, communication service head at the corporation. The trial operation will depend on the decision of a company which won the project management contract.
The 450-mile Ethio-Djibouti railway line is being built by China Railway Engineering Corporation and China Civil Engineering Construction at a cost of 4 billion U.S. dollars. (Fana Broadcasting Corporate/FBC)
