11 military officers sacked in Pakistan over corruption charges

Xinhua, April 21, 2016 Adjust font size:

Pakistan Army Chief, General Raheel Sharif, has dismissed 11 army officers over corruption charges, the military said on Thursday.

Two senior military officers - one lieutenant general and a major general - were among the sacked personnel, the army sources told the media. Besides, four brigadiers, one colonel, three lieutenant colonels and one major.

They belonged to the Frontier Corps and served in southwestern Balochistan province. Frontiers corps routinely perform duties along the border with Afghanistan. Lt. Gen. Obaid Ullah had served as head of the FC in the province.

Defence analysts say it is the first time a group of eleven officers have been removed from services and that the news was shared with the public.

"They also returned supposedly what they earned while in FC (Frontier Corps)," the military sources said.

"All officers are retired due to fault, meaning by all benefits withdrawn except pension and met facility," the sources said.

The sources did not give any details about the nature of the corruption.

Those who have been sent homes include Maj. Gen. Ejaz Shahid, Brig Rasheed, Brig Asad shahzada, Brig saifullah, Brig Aamir, Col Haider and Maj Najeeb. Enditem
