Russia to produce fuel cell-powered UAVs

Xinhua, April 21, 2016 Adjust font size:

Russian companies will produce the country's first fuel cell-powered unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in 2016, local media reported Thursday.

"Ten fuel cell unmanned aerial vehicles will have been produced by the end of 2016 as an alternative to UAV equipped with accumulators," said the Interfax news agency.

According to Interfax, a UAV has been transformed into one powered by fuel cells. In a test flight, the refitted model had a flight duration of more than three hours, three times longer than before the transformation.

Besides longer flight duration, the fuel cell-powered UAV also has less noise and vibration on the orbit tracks, said Interfax. Endi
