Uganda' s SC Villa beat Morocco' s FUS Rabat in CAF tie

Xinhua, April 21, 2016 Adjust font size:

Hosts SC Villa defeated Morocco' s FUS Rabat 1-0 in the second leg of a CAF Confederations Cup tie played at the Mandela National Stadium in the outskirts of the capital Kampala on Wednesday.

Umar Kasumba netted a 56th minute penalty after a Moroccan defender Ass Mandawsy had played roughly in the box.

"Although we have failed to qualify for the next round of the competition, we are happy to win in-front of our fans," said SC Villa coach Ibrahim Kirya.

The Moroccan Premier League side advances to the next stage on a 7-1 goal aggregate since they convincingly won the first leg 7-0 in Rabat, Morocco.

It was the visiting side that came close to scoring in the 30th minute but a point blank header by Moustapha Konde missed the target by inches with the SC Villa goalkeeper Nicholas Sebwato beaten. The game went into recess without serious attempts at goal.

In the second half SC Villa mounted more pressure with Godfrey Lwesibawa and Martin Kizza with good approach.

After one of the attacks Mandawsy brought down an SC Villa player in the box resulting into a penalty that Kasumba netted.

The visitors tried to fight back but SC Villa defenders stood firm. FUS Rabat coach Hoalid Regragui made three changes, but to no avail. Endit
