OIC condemns Israeli PM statement on Golan Heights

Xinhua, April 20, 2016 Adjust font size:

The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) condemned on Wednesday the statement of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on the Golan Heights.

Earlier, Netanyahu vowed this week that Golan Heights will forever remain in Israel's hands and called on the international community to recognize Israeli sovereignty.

The OIC described the Israeli leader's statement as dangerous, and a move to challenge the international resolutions and law.

The OIC General Secretary Iyad bin Amin Madani said that the organization will call for a meeting of member countries to discuss the controversial words, adding that the Golan Heights is an Arab land, while demanding an end to the Israeli occupation of all Arab lands since 1967.

Netanyahu's statement was met with rejection from many countries, including Germany and the United States, whose State Department spokesman John Kirby said that the Obama administration does not consider the Golan Heights to be a part of Israel. Enditem
