The UN General Assembly kicked off on Tuesday a three-day special session on global drug issues to discuss how to fight the use of illicit narcotics.

UN General Assembly President Myogen Lykketoft said that combatting drug use is essential for public health, human rights and sustainable development as well as being a shared responsibility of the international community.

The session will include several discussions ranging from drugs and health and crime as well as their impact on youth, women, children and communities.

According to the World Drug Report 2015, it is estimated that 246 million people between the ages of 15 and 64 years used an illicit drug in 2013. Among them, some 27 million people are problem drug users or those suffering from disorders or dependence. Endi
