Indian court sentences 8 to death for killing student in 2014

Xinhua, April 19, 2016 Adjust font size:

An Indian court Tuesday sentenced to death eight people for killing a college student in the eastern state of West Bengal two years ago.

The court handed down the death penalty to eight of the 12 convicted for the brutal murder of 21-year-old Sourav Chowdhury and hacking his body to pieces in West Bengal's North 24 Parganas district's Bamangachi area, some 30 kms from state capital Kolkata, in 2014.

The lawyer for the convicts has said he will appeal in a higher court of law against the judgment of the lower court.

India rarely executes death row convicts, except three terrorists being hanged in the past three years. Endit
