Peace talks only way to resolve Palestine-Israel issue: Chinese envoy

Peace talks are the only way to resolve the conflict between Palestine and Israel, said a Chinese envoy here on Monday.
Liu Jieyi, China's permanent representative to the United Nations, made the remarks at a Security Council meeting on Middle East situation.
"If peace talks stall, it could only exacerbate differences, incite hatred and drag Palestine and Israel into a vicious circle of escalating violence in which both sides will pay a heavy price," he said.
At present, Israel continues to demolish Palestinian structures in the West Bank at an alarming rate. The total number of demolitions in 2015 was exceeded in the first three months of this year. More than 700 people have been displaced.
For over six months, Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territory have been gripped by a surge in violence, triggered by terrorist attacks by individual Palestinians, UN chief Ban Ki-moon told the 15-nation council earlier on Tuesday.
"The use of force is never the solution," said Liu. "Only by resuming peace talks at an early date, can it be possible to achieve peace and stability between Palestine and Israel, and in the region."
Liu also noted that the fight against terrorism is closely connected with the settlement of the hotspot issues in the Middle East.
Under the framework of the UN, all parties concerned should adopt common measures, resolutely crack down on the spreading of ideologies of violent extremism and terrorism, sever the channels of financing for terrorism and stop the flows of foreign terrorist fighters to create favorable conditions for the political resolution of hotspot issues, he said.
"China is ready to work with the international community in a joint effort to find a way out of the chaos in the Middle East," he added. Endi
