TAP project estimated to bring Albania 15,000 new jobs in coming 5 years

Xinhua, April 19, 2016 Adjust font size:

Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama said on Monday that the Trans-Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) project in Albania is expected to inject 1 billion U.S. dollars and bring the country 15,000 new jobs in the coming five years.

Rama said this at a ceremony to welcome the arrival of the first pipelines to Spitalla, in the west state of Durres.

"There is no doubt that through the TAP, Albania is finally placed in one of the most important energy arteries in Europe today," Rama said, adding "the TAP has also become one of the main engines of economic and social development of the country."

A 90,000-square-meter space will serve to deposit materials, mainly pipes that will be used for the building of the TAP through Albania.

He also announced that Albania has started negotiations with TAP investors to obtain equal benefits with Greece from the project.

"The first agreement does not provide equal remuneration from the project. There is no reason for Greece or other countries to be allowed a higher benefit. TAP investors showed readiness to negotiate over this issue. It's important to us to be at the same beneficiary level with other countries involved in the project," Rama said. Endi
