Aussie woman faces charge of murdering neighbor over long-running parking dispute

Xinhua, April 19, 2016 Adjust font size:

An Australian woman who allegedly murdered her neighbor over a long-running parking dispute has appeared in court.

Eva Whitecross fronted Melbourne Magistrates' Court on Tuesday charged with killing Rachel Tyquin, 44, in a suburban street on Saturday morning.

Whitecross, who turned herself into police shortly after Tyquin's death, did not apply for bail and was remanded in custody.

The 53-year-old allegedly stabbed the victim, a personal trainer, in the neck while she was exercising around 250 meters away from her home in Sunbury, in Melbourne's north-west.

It has been reported that the Whitecross and Tyquin had been engaged in an on-going feud for decades.

News Corp claimed that Whitecross had taken issue with Tyquin's fitness and masseuse clients parking in the small one-way street.

Victorian prosecutor Susanna Locke asked the judge for more time to prepare the state's case against Whitecross.

Locke said post-mortem results and the subsequent coroners report was expected to take more than three months to prepare.

Police also needed more time to interview the pair's neighbors and others close to the situation, and review a "significant" amount of surveillance footage, she said.

The lawyer for the defendant asked the court to note that Whitecross had been injured. The alleged killer is due to reappear in court on Sept. 13. Endit
