S.Korean president to visit Iran in early May

Xinhua, April 18, 2016 Adjust font size:

South Korean President Park Geun-hye will make a three-day state visit to Iran early next month after the Iranian nuclear deal last July began to lift sanctions toward the Persian country, Park's office said Monday.

Park will visit Iran for three days from May 1 at the invitation of the Persian country, according to Cheong Wa Dae. Park would become the first South Korean president to visit Tehran since the two nations set up diplomatic ties in 1962.

During the visit, Park will hold a summit meeting with her Iranian counterpart Hassan Rouhani to discuss bilateral relations, cooperation measures and situations on the Korean peninsula.

Park is forecast to focus mainly on bilateral economic cooperation, including traditional cooperation sectors between the two countries like infrastructure, plants and energy, as well as new growth industries such as health care, environment and ocean & fisheries. Endit
