The following are news highlights in major Nigerian media outlets on Saturday.

-- President Muhammadu Buhari has declared that diversification of the Nigerian economy is a matter of urgency.

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu, in a statement, quoted Buhari as saying this in China on Friday. (Daily Trust)

-- Senate President Bukola Saraki on Friday lost yet another battle to stop his trial at the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT). This was as the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja dismissed a legal action seeking to stop his trial at the CCT on the ground that such violates his fundamental rights to fair trial. -- The Nigerian police have declared war on Fulani herdsmen perpetrating unending attacks on farmers with unlicensed firearms.

The police said it does not issue gun licences to herdsmen, and would henceforth clamp down on any one of them found to be in possession of firearms without police licence. (The Punch) Endit
