Reform delays hinder Albania's economy, EU membership bid

Xinhua, April 16, 2016 Adjust font size:

A lack of reforms in the Albania's judicial system is taking a toll on the country's economy, Albanian Telegraphic Agency quoted a business leader as saying Saturday.

"The delay of the implementation of judicial and other reforms costs Albania new investment, new jobs, an increase of exports and delays the start of negotiations towards membership in the European Union(EU)," Marinela Jazoj, executive director of the Association of Foreign Investors in Albania, said.

"If the country wants to start negotiations for EU membership, it must first intensify reform efforts in key priority areas, such as the functioning of law, judicial reform, the fight against corruption and organized crime, public administration and fundamental rights," Jazoj said. Endi
