Togolese president invited to attend inauguration of Congo's reelected president Nguesso

Xinhua, April 15, 2016 Adjust font size:

Togolese President Faure Gnassingbe is expected at the inauguration ceremony of the Congolese reelected President Denis Sassou Nguesso on Saturday in Brazzaville, national newspaper Togo-Presse on Friday reported.

"At the inauguration ceremony, President Sassou Nguesso wishes to have at his side his friend and brother, the Togolese head of State Faure Essozimna Gnassingbe," Congolese minister of foreign affairs and cooperation said on Thursday, the newspaper reported.

Minister Jean-Claude Gakosso, the envoy of Congolese president, disclosed this to the press at the end of the audience granted to him on Thursday by the president of Togo.

"The invitation to the inauguration ceremony is the main objective of the envoy's visit to Togo," Togo-Press said.

Gakosso argued, according to the newspaper, that the presence of Faure Gnassingbe of Togo at the inauguration ceremony "is much-desired by the Congolese counterpart".

Denis Sassou Nguesso is reelected at the head of the Republic of Congo in the first round of the presidential election. He obtained over 60 percent of the votes cast. Endit
