-- The Zambian government said the country was importing about 60 percent finished petroleum products due to an increase in demand of the commodity which caused a fuel scarcity in the recent past.

Minister of Energy and Water Development Dora Siliya said the country previously used to import more crude oil and less finished products but that this has changed now because the demand has gone up.

She said the country's sole oil refinery, Indeni Oil Refinery, has no capacity to refine enough oil to satisfy the demand. (THE POST)

-- Youths from four political parties in Zambia have signed a communique to denounce violence and discourage ethnic divisions and tribal talk ahead of this year's general elections.

The youths, from the ruling Patriotic Front (PF), main opposition United Party for National Development (UPND), Forum for Democracy and Development (FDD) and the Green Party, signed the communique to disown people planning and executing violence ahead of the August 11 general elections.
