Xinhua, April 15, 2016 Adjust font size:

he Nepalese government on Thursday launched e-tendering portal for the first time in the country to ease the public procurement process.

Nepalese Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli launched the e-tendering portal at a function in the capital city, which is expected to ensure transparency in the bidding process.

The portal that is launched by the Public Procurement and Monitoring office under the office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers has come into operation with the technical support of the Asian Development Bank.

Addressing the launching ceremony, the Nepalese prime minister said "Modern technologies should be utilized fully and practiced to lead the country toward development."

He further expressed hope that this system would make the country's economic activities and government's functioning transparent.

Five government departments including the Department of Roads, the Department of Irrigation, the Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation have started the e-tendering process from Thursday whereas other government departments will practice the system gradually.

Public bidding process is often regarded as controversial in Nepal in lack of transparency and rife in corruption. Enditem
