1st LD-Writethru: Chinese shares close higher Thursday

Chinese stocks continued to rise on Thursday, following Wednesday's upbeat trade data and key economic data due on Friday.

The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index went up 0.51 percent, at 3,082.36 points. The smaller Shenzhen index closed 0.81 percent higher at 10,771.61 points.

Total turnover on the two bourses dropped sharply to 630 billion yuan (97.07 billion U.S. dollars) from 823.6 billion yuan the previous trading day.

The ChiNext Index, China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, gained 1.32 percent to close at 2,324.40 points.

Data on Wednesday showed that China's exports in yuan-denominated terms had surged 18.7 percent year on year in March, the first increase since December.

China will issue economic data for the first quarter on Friday. Endi
