Equities put up good performance Wednesday at JSE

Equities at the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE) had a brighter morning on Wednesday.

All Share Index firmed by 1.68% at 52,935.03 while Industrials gained by 1.21% at 71019,63.

Resources were the greatest winners in the morning, becoming stronger by 4.74% at 31,008.27, followed by the Top 40 firming by 1.89% at 46,616.91.

However, commodities had a bad start. Gold started down by 0.49% at 1,249.32 per ounce. Oil also lost 0.54% starting the day at 44,04 per barrel while Silver was down by 0.05% at 16,09 per ounce.

The equities had not lost their firming streak at the close of JSE on Wednesday.

All Share closed still firmer by 1.69% at 52,938.24 while Top 40 ended 1.89% stronger at 46617.72. Financials also closed firm by 1.95% at 15,569.72 while Industrials 1.10% at 70,943.73. And Resources maintained its high gains by 4.80% at 30,968.27.

Commodities, however, largely closed the day with mixed reactions. Gold ended down by 0.91% at 1,244.30 per ounce. Oil ended on a positive by 1.31% at 44,80 per barrel while platinum dipped by 0.50% at 995 per ounce.

The rand started the day 0.58 percent weaker at R14.75 to the U.S.dollar. But it broke loose from its morning weakness to end the day stronger by 2.55% at 14,42 to the U.S dollar. Endite
