Syria's parliamentary elections began on Wednesday, with some 3,500 candidates vying for the 250 parliamentary seats amid a boycott by opposition groups.

A total of 7,300 polling stations opened at 7 a.m. (0500 GMT) in government-controlled areas across the country, the national Syrian TV said. (Syria-Parliament-Elections)

YANGON -- A 7.1-magnitude earthquake hit Myanmar's northwestern part Wednesday evening, according to the Myanmar Earthquake Committee.

With an epicenter 7.0 kilometers west of Kanbalu, Sagaing region, and near Chindwin river bank, the quake jolted Yay Oo at 20:25:00 local time or 13:55 GMT. (Myanmar-Earthquahe)

LONDON -- "Vote Leave" and "Britain Stronger in Europe" were named as official campaigns in the referendum on British membership of the European Union (EU), British Electoral Commission announced Wednesday.

"The Electoral Commission has today designated the two lead campaigners at the EU Referendum - designating 'The In Campaign Ltd' to be the lead campaigner for the 'Remain' outcome, and 'Vote Leave Ltd' for the 'Leave' outcome," the commission said in a statement. MADRID -- The man suspected of supplying weapons to Amedy Coulibaly, the terrorist who killed four people in a Paris supermarket and a policeman in separate incidents in January 2015, was arrested Wednesday, the Spanish interior ministry confirmed.
