Nigerian army carries out airstrike on Boko Haram logistics base

Xinhua, April 13, 2016 Adjust font size:

The Nigerian air force on Wednesday said its fighter aircraft carried out an airstrike on a logistics base of Islamist group Boko Haram during a recent operation.

Ayodele Famuyiwa, spokesman for the air force, said in a statement that the "successful operation" took place on Monday in Kangarawa area of the northeastern Borno state.

It was in continuation of the military's employment of air power to decimate the capability of the insurgents, the statement said.

The scale of inferno and multi-explosions after the airstrike suggested that the location possibly housed fuel or ammunition, it added.

It said the strike constituted another major setback to the militants.

The Nigerian army has in the past year retaken large areas previously under Boko Haram control and freed many hostages taken by Boko Haram. Endit
