Manchester City beat PSG to reach Champions League semifinals

Xinhua, April 13, 2016 Adjust font size:

English Premier League side Manchester City reached the Champions League semifinals for the first time after beating Paris Saint-Germain 1-0 in the second leg of the quarterfinals at the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday.

City, who drew with the French champions 2-2 last week in Paris, wasted a precious chance in the first half as Sergio Aguero's penalty kick went wide.

Kevin de Bruyne fired home from outside the box in the 76th minute to give City the victory despite that a goalless draw would be enough to send them through.

PSG striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic, whose contract expires after this season, failed to shine in a city that he had been widely rumored to join. PSG coach Laurent Blanc had to see his team eliminated in the quarterfinals four seasons in a row.

Cristiano Ronaldo scored a hat trick to help Madrid beat Wolfsburg 3-0 at the Santiago Bernabeu, overturning a 2-0 first-leg deficit to reach the last four for the sixth year running.

The remaining quarter-final second legs will be played on Wednesday, with reigning European champions Barcelona defending a 2-1 first-leg lead as they go to Atletico Madrid and Bayern Munich taking a 1-0 advantage to Benfica. Endit
