The situation on the Macedonian-Greek border was worrying and European Union should give stronger support to Macedonia, Croatian President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic said on Tuesday.
Grabar-Kitarovic expressed her worry about the situation on Macedonian-Greek border after meeting with her Slovenian and Macedonian counterparts Borut Pahor and Gjorge Ivanov in Skopje, capital of Macedonia, Croatian News Agency Hina reported.
She believed the situation there was quite worrying according to the information she heard, saying Macedonia should get much stronger support and assistance from EU member countries, notably regarding talks with Greece.
Greece must take its responsibility and bring order in the camps on its side of the border, she added.
The security conditions was "very poor" in the camps along the Macedonian border, she said, adding there is strong pressure to break through the border and revive the so-called western Balkan route.
She urged EU to take acts and make clear policy to deal with the migrant crisis.
Neither Croatia nor Macedonia were destinations for migrants, she said, adding "we are potentially transit states. That's why the European Union has the responsibility to send very clear messages to the migrants as to what they can expect." Enditem
