Iran eyes South Korea toughest rival in World Cup qualifiers

Xinhua, April 12, 2016 Adjust font size:

Iran coach Carlos Queiroz said Tuesday that South Korea is the toughest rival in Russia 2018 World Cup Asian qualifiers.

Twelve teams were drawn into two groups of six teams to play home-and-away under the round-robin format.

Iran was drawn against South Korea, Uzbekistan, Qatar, Syria and China in Group A.

"In my opinion, both groups consist of strong teams. We cannot underestimate Syria, and Qatar is also a strong team, but our toughest rival is South Korea," Queiroz was quoted as saying by Tasnim news agency.

Iran will open the campaign against Qatar at home on Sept. 1. Endit
