(Special for CAFS) Zambia to host agritech exposition

Xinhua, April 12, 2016 Adjust font size:

Zambia in this week will host an agritech exposition, the country's prime agricultural event where over 15,000 farmers and experts are expected to attend, organizers said on Tuesday.

The third edition of the expo, hosted by the Zambia National Farmers Union (ZNFU), will run from Thursday to Saturday this week in central Zambia's Chisamba district at the Golden Valley Research Trust premises.

A statement obtained by Xinhua said more than 145 local and international farming technology and service providers will showcase their products.

Evelyn Nguleka, president of the ZNFU said this year's expo will also feature a live irrigation center pivot as well as a zone for small and medium enterprises (SMEs).

"The all new 4X4 Test Track is another feature that will finally help farmers decide which 4X4 work horse is best for their farm. We have also extended the SME zone to make sure we bring in as many agro SMEs as possible. This is important to use as we strive to showcase the Zambian agricultural industry in totality," she said.

Given Lubinda, Zambia's Agriculture Minister, commended the organizers for the event, saying it will help the farmers come up with solutions facing the sector.

"We must commend the Zambia National Farmers Union for coming up with events like the Agritech Expo where farmers can meet, share experiences and information, as well as learn good agronomy tactics that can help them improve," he said.

The exposition, to be officially opened by President Edgar Lungu, will also have interactive workshops, machinery demonstrations as well as sprayer demonstrations. Edit
