A senior Palestinian official from the Fatah Movement was killed and four other people were injured Tuesday in a car bombing in the southern city of Sidon, the National News Agency (NNA) reported.

According to the report, Fathi Zaidan was killed and four others were injured in the blast near Ain el-Hilweh Palestinian refugee camp.

Zaidan is the security official with Palestinian National Authority President Mahmoud Abbas' Fatah group in the Mieh Mieh camp.

The head of the joint Palestinian security force in Lebanon Major General Mounir al-Maqdah told LBCI TV that before the blast, Zaidan attended a meeting in Mieh Mieh during which he asked for increased security measures at the camp.

The Internal Security Forces who arrived at the scene of the explosion asked people to distance themselves from the blast scene to pave way for ambulances to transport the wounded.

Lebanon is home to some 400,000 Palestinians. Endit
