At least 12 killed in road accident in eastern Nepal

At least 12 people were killed in a bus accident in eastern Nepal on Tuesday morning.

An ill fated bus was traveling from Khotang district to Kathmandu when it plunged some 300 meters down the road at Mahadevsthan.

"12 passengers died on the spot whereas more than two dozen passengers sustained injury", local media quoted Inspector Saroj Rai of District Police Office as saying.

The identity of the deceased persons have not been identified yet. The injured passengers have been taken to local hospitals for treatment.

Though it was reported that more than 40 passengers were traveling in the bus, the exact number is yet to be determined. According to police, the public bus was carrying passengers out of its capacity. Endit
