Xinhua, April 12, 2016 Adjust font size:

The final session of Vietnam's 13th National Assembly (NA) closed Tuesday in capital Hanoi, fulfilling the tasks of replacing top leadership positions of the country.

The 11th session, the last gathering of the 13th NA, has greatly succeeded, said NA Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan at the closing session.

During the session, the NA has summarized its five-year term and drawn valuable lessons, set out tasks and targets in national development, replaced top leadership positions of the country, promptly implemented the resolution of the 12th national congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam, as well as prepared for the next steps of development, Ngan said.

On March 31, Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan became the country's first NA chairwoman, while Tran Dai Quang was elected the new president on April 2, and Nguyen Xuan Phuc was elected to become the country's new Prime Minister on April 7.

They were elected to replace former NA Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung, former President Truong Tan Sang, and former Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung.

In order to continue implementing tasks of the 13th NA and prepare activities of the 14th NA, the parliament required relevant agencies to closely coordinate and actively make preparations for the elections of deputies to the 14th NA and all-level people's councils during 2016-2021 tenure.

Concerning the summary of the 2011-2016 tenure, Ngan said the 13th NA has fulfilled the responsibility of promulgating the 2013 Constitution.

Speaking at a press conference after the closing session, Nguyen Hanh Phuc, head of the NA Office, and the 13th NA Secretary General said at the first gathering of the 14th NA, which is expected to be held in July, deputies will cast votes to elect President, Prime Minister, NA Chairperson and other top positions in the state apparatus.
