Freezing Palestinian housing project "discrimination": PNA

Xinhua, April 11, 2016 Adjust font size:

The Palestinian National Authority (PNA) Foreign Ministry said Monday that freezing a Palestinian housing project in southern Jerusalem represents "discrimination."

The ministry said in an emailed press statement that this project comes to respond to the desperate need of Palestinians for housing projects to accommodate the population growth in the city, and described the Israeli move as "discriminatory," especially that it comes as the "Israeli government approves new settlement plans in the same area."

The Israeli public radio reported that the Israeli political level decided to freeze the Palestinian housing project for secret reasons.

The Palestinian ministry said that this Israeli decision comes in light of the "plans of the Israeli government of Benjamin Netanyahu that unfold everyday, which aim at land theft and Judaization, foremost the Judaization of Jerusalem city" and comes along side "an unprecedented attack against the Palestinian existence in Area C."

According to the interim Oslo Accords signed between the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) and Israel in 1993, the West Bank is divided into three zones: A, B and C, with area A being under Palestinian control, B under Israeli security control and Palestinian administrative control, and C being under full Israeli control.

According to a recent UN report, the Israeli authorities demolished 593 Palestinian structures since the beginning of the year, compared to 435 during 2015. Endit
