Russia ranks first in space launch market: head of space agency

Xinhua, April 11, 2016 Adjust font size:

Russia remains to be a leader in the global space launch market and launch vehicles, the head of Roscosmos, also known as the Russian Federal Space Agency, said on Monday.

"We are in the first place of launching services. At the moment we hold more than 40 percent of all start-ups in the world," Igor Komarov was quoted by Russian news agency RIA Novosti as saying.

He noted that despite Western sanctions, Russia continues to lead the development and production of missile engines.

"In other areas, Russia has much to learn from the United States, Europe and other countries," Komarov said, adding that Russia has work to do in such areas as communications, telecommunications and remote sensing of the Earth.

In 2015, Russia was the world leader for launches of space rockets with 26 starts, while in 2014, the number was 36 starts, news reports said. Endi
