Over 60 pct Croatia doctors consider working abroad: survey

Croatia was facing a risk of medical brain drain when over 60 percent qualified doctors were conserving to leave the country, local media reported on Sunday.
A survey, conducted among 1,496 members of the Croatian Medical Chamber (HLK), showed some 60 percent of doctors aged up to 40 were preparing to emigrate other countries. And more than 1,000 doctors have gathered the necessary documents for work abroad.
More than 90 percent respondents believed they were treated worse in term of working conditions and wages than their colleagues in the European Union, the survey showed.
Trpimir Goluza, the HLK chairman, said the main reasons for doctors leaving were that they saw there would be less change or worse for their future professional status and career development.
He called on taking specific measures to keep the doctors in the country to prevent brain drain. Endit
