Voters in Djibouti go to the polls

Xinhua, April 8, 2016 Adjust font size:

Polling stations officially opened their doors across the Djibouti national territory on Friday at 6 a.m.(local time) for the start of voting in the country's presidential elections.

The election, the fifth in the country's history, will see incumbent President Ismail Omar Guelleh who is running for his fourth term, battle it out against five other candidates.

This is a record number of candidates in Djibouti's political history because since the reintroduction of multipartyism, elections have only been contested by the incumbent president against a single opposition leader, or sometimes the incumbent has run unopposed in case of opposition boycott.

According to local political analysts as well as observation by most international media, the incumbent president is expected to easily win Friday's elections. Endit
