The Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF) is implementing a soccer pilot program in Nicaragua, local media reported on Thursday.

According to Nicaragua's daily "19 Digital", Hugo Salvedo, CONCACAF's director of sports development, the institution is making progress in the implementation of a soccer program in the Central American country.

Salvedo held a meeting in Managua with officials from Nicaragua's Education Ministry, the Nicaraguan Sports Institute, the Nicaraguan Football Federation (FENIFUT) and Managua's City Hall.

Salvedo said CONCACAF was extending the FIFA project which was implemented before in the European and African countries with very good results.

"It is a great opportunity for Nicaragua to develop soccer, a sport with great acceptance and growth," said Salvedo.

FENIFUT President Jacinto Reyes highlighted the importance of the joint work to make this program a success in Nicaraguan schools, especially in Managua. Endit
