Xinhua, April 8, 2016 Adjust font size:

Foreign Ministers of Azerbaijan, Russia and Iran have agreed to conduct a comprehensive study of North-South transport corridor project, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said here on Thursday.

When asked about whether Russia is ready to invest in the construction of Qazvin-Rasht-Astara railway project, Lavrov said that Russia will evaluate the practical aspects of implementation of the North-South project on the western coast of the Caspian Sea.

"Baku has already expressed willingness to invest in the Qazvin-Rasht-Astara railway construction project on the territory of Iran," he told reporters after a planned trilateral meeting with his Azerbaijani and Iranian counterparts.

The Qazvin-Rasht-Astara railway is a part of the North-South transport corridor. Construction investments are estimated at 400 million U.S. dollars.

The railway has an initial capacity to transport annually 6 million tons of cargo and will gradually increase its capacity to up to 20 million tons. Enditem
